Rashad Wright Injured

Rashad Wright is playing internationally, competing for the Alba Berlin squad. He has also played recently in Instanbul, Turkey, for the team, Efes Pilsen.

Wright went down a couple of weeks ago with a fairly serious injury. According to news reports (and my limited ability to understand what the German media has said about it), Wright has a fractured ankle. He will be out 4 to 6 weeks.

Howard Thompkins Named Freshman All-American

Congratulations to Thompkins. It's a great achievement for him, especially considering the fact that he started the year recovering from multiple injuries. He made up for lost time and was recognized accordingly.

Background Information on Pearson

New UGA Coach, Mark Fox, has added to his staff, bringing aboard Philip Pearson, former interim head coach at University of Alabama.

A lot of the basketball followers are upbeat about the hire. Having the right people on staff is critical to the success of any program, and so I decided to post some information on Pearson so we all can get to know him a bit.

He went to University of Alabama and played for the Crimson Tide's basketball program. Had some talented teammates during that period.

Cutting strings with Alabama will be hard for him, but he will adjust to everything well. The USA Today article has information about Pearson's family, and an endorsement from one of Pearson's former players.

All in all, it sounds like UGA is getting a guy who knows the recruiting game and will give 110 percent. Hard to make a definitive assessment based on a few news articles, but from what I can tell, good move for Georgia.

Demarcus Cousins to UK

Well, UK is getting it done. They will likely have a line-up that features Orton at center, Patrick Patterson at forward, and then bring in Demarcus Cousins off the bench. Perry Stevenson will be available and in the mix on their front-line.

You throw in Jodie Meeks at the 2-guard and a decent point guard, and you've got a Final Four-quality roster. Meeks is reportedly declaring for the draft, but I fully expect him to be back next year.

Is John Wall next?

Favors to Stick with Tech

No surprise in this article. As such, I'll talk about one potential strategy that could bag Favors, and my thoughts about the idea.

The only way that UGA would have to bag Favors would be for UGA coach, Mark Fox, to call Coach Michael Reddick up and offer him an assistant coaching position. Now, that might be a smart move, but not for the reason of recruiting Derrick Favors.

Coach Reddick is a high quality guy, and has done a fantastic job of developing Favors. Assuming Coach Herrmann is not retained, Reddick could assume his role of being the designated "big man's" coach. Reddick might also be a fantastic recruiter.

However, offering Coach Reddick the job, solely to bag Derrick Favors would not be against the rules, as I understand them, but it would be a poor showing ethically for a new coach. That's my take on it.

Jarvis Hayes Playing Well

Hayes has battled through the knee injuries and is starting to really produce for the New Jersey Nets.

Hayes is averaging a career-high 9 points and 4 rebounds. He is shooting 45 percent from the floor, and almost 40 percent from behind the arc, and has earned more playing time this year.

Doubt he'll ever be a particularly high-riser, but he doesn't need to be. Play some reasonable defense and feed off of the penetrate and dish game that Devon Harris, New Jersey's star point guard, creates. If Hayes develops his spot-up shooting game, and keeps defenders honest by driving it every once in a while, he may have a long NBA career.

Levi Stukes to Guayana Gigantes

After spending time down in Montevideo, Uruguay, Levi Stukes is in a new locale.

Stukes has landed in Guayana, Venezuela, and is playing for the Guayana Gigantes. Guayana is in the eastern region of Venezuela, and is a city of about 1 million people.

Stukes immediately broke into the starting line-up, and scored 13 points in his last game, a 79 to 73 win over La Guira.

Levi has fashioned for himself a good international career. More later.
