Like I said, Bama would win big over Florida

:-)

Alabama shows how it can be done. Great game by the Crimson Tide.

Two-Point Win for Kentucky

Shows the value of having point guards that can knock down free throws in clutch situations. UNC had their chances. Great game. They both look like locks for deep tournament runs.

Picking Florida to win big over Bama

Alabama has the guys up front to control the line of scrimmage, but Florida spreads you out so much that by the end of the game Florida will have the clear advantage.

Guessing 31 to 20.

Wow. Kentucky and UNC Playing Big Boy Basketball

Great game so far.

UK looks fantastic. They've missed a few free throws, but other than that, their defense is aggressive, the offense looks very smooth, and they have quality bigs, creators and shooters.

UNC started to catch up a bit at the end of the first half. They got the ball inside, but Patterson, Cousins and Stevenson were able to meet them at the rim.

One of the ref's seems to be biased toward UK. I didn't understand the end of the first half. Not that UNC could have done anything much with the ball, but it's clear that the horn sounded with time remaining on the clock.

Should be a great second half. UK's got the horses. Probably be a blow-out win for Kentucky.

Virginia Tech Looking for Revenge

Could be a statement game for the Dawgs if we can beat Virginia Tech at home.

I like our chances. Dawgs win 75 to 72.

Dawgs Win!

Georgia beats St. Louis.

Dustin Ware is really starting to come on. He's sort of the x-factor in that sophomore class. If he plays well, the Dawgs will likely have a chance to win.

Jeremy Price had a pretty nice game. Shot 6 of 10 from the floor. If his conditioning gets to where it needs to be, he'll be able to run the floor and get baskets. Really good hands for a big man. Still not a very high riser, but he's a space-eater, and that's critical for snagging rebounds and scoring around the bucket.

Virginia Tech should be a good test for the improving Dawgs.

Gaines Leading Scorer in the D-League

He was second before last night's game, but he is in first place now. Although the Idaho Stampede lost the game to the Dakota Wizards, 117 to 114, it wasn't Sundiata's fault.

Gaines came of the bench again and scored 29 points on 9 of 16 shooting from the floor. He was 3 of 6 from behind the arc, and an amazing 8 of 8 from the free throw line. He also had 5 rebounds and 8 assists.

Sundiata Gaines gets press

Good story from the Idaho Statesman.

Learned to get to the basket because of the wobbly condition of the rims in New York. Also says that Georgia's SEC tournament championship title run was one of the best experiences of his life.

Sundiata Gaines Tearing Up D-League

In his most recent action, Gaines came off the bench to put up big numbers. He scored 21 points with 8 assists, 2 rebounds, and 5 steals. He shot 8 of 15 from the floor, and had just one turnover.

Sundiata has his familiar look, sleeved arm and all, in the attached video.

Damien Wilkins has big game

Wilkins notched 15 points, a career-high 12 rebounds, and 6 assists in his recent game against the Denver Nuggets.

Wilkins, who had been coming off the bench, got the rare start so that his team could match up better with the quick athletes on Denver's squad. He had the assignment to slow down Carmelo Anthony.

Wilkins more than held his own. He went 6 of 11 from the field, 3 of 3 from the line, and helped lead his team to victory, breaking a 15-game winless streak.

Fred Gibson Released

by the Austin Toros. The move by the Toros was made to get the team down to its roster for starting the D-League season.

Is this the end of Gibson's career in professional sports?

Dennis Felton Speaks to Problems in Men's Basketball

Preview of program scheduled to air later in December.

As I've said before, Felton didn't win nearly enough to suit me. He admittedly came into a very difficult situation. In fairness, Felton did recruit Sundiata Gaines, Dave Bliss and Terrance Woodbury, who became the keys to UGA's SEC Tournament championship.

I think that Felton's biggest contribution, however, may have been managing to get through the NCAA problems that he inherited. Felton stuck to his principles, and never took short-cuts. UGA quietly exited NCAA probation a couple of years ago.

Now that the program is on a stable footing, with quality student-athletes like Trey Thompkins, Travis Leslie, Dustin Ware, Jeremy Price and Chris Barnes, it will be up to Coach Fox to mold Felton's recruits, instill a really good offensive system, and bring in the best recruits in Georgia. Hopefully, UGA will soon have a high class and a winning basketball program.

At any rate, it was likely his past experience with NCAA issues that made Coach Felton an attractive panelist for PSU.

By the way, is it just me, or does it look to you like Coach Felton has lost a good bit of weight?

UGA-Tech Recap

There are a number of good stories out there that will help Dawg fans savor the win over Tech a little bit longer. The article immediately below is from the ABH.

Sundiata Gaines Stars in First D-League Action

Gaines opted to remain in the States this year instead of heading back to Italy. He was selected by the Idaho Stampede in the first round of the NBA's D-League draft process.

He will definitely get some looks from the NBA if he plays like he did last night. Sundiata went for 31 points with 12 assists. He was 11 of 15 from the floor, connected on 2 of 4 behind the arc, and even hit 7 of 11 free throws.

Good quotes from Gaines in the attached article.

Dawgs Win! UGA Beats Tech!

What a great game! Plenty of twists and turns. A fill-in for UGA VII. A down Georgia team facing a Tech team ranked #7 in the nation.

And the Dawgs win. They found a way, and it was by running the ball right at Tech's undersized defensive linemen. By keeping the ball on offense, Georgia was able to keep Tech's option running attack on the sidelines.

Then when Tech did get the ball, Georgia stiffened just enough on defense. Jonathan Dwyer was wrapped up the entire night, so that took away Tech's best play up the middle. Nesbitt got hurt, came back later, but completed very few passes. Almost nothing down the field.

And as far as Nesbitt's running, due to his injury he was probably slowed down a good bit. Yet and still, that's part of the game. Georgia kept Nesbitt from making the big gains. And the pitch man was covered well enough. No long fourth quarter runs by Roddy Jones this year.

Congrats to the Dawgs!
