Dai-Jon Parker: Football or Hoops?

Good article from the AJC. Should make his recruitment very interesting.

Wonder what are the chances of UGA landing both Parker and Nick Marshall as football players? After the season ended in football, those guys would really help at the 2-guard position.

Cady Lalanne Receives Honor

Lalanne was named 4A Player of the Year. Lalanne averaged 21 points and 13 rebounds, while shooting 56 percent from the floor. He led his team to a 24 and 9 record and the state championship game.

Cady will be 1 of 6 players competing for the Mr. Florida Basketball for 2009/2010 (I expect that that award will go to Brandon Knight).

Gaines Posts Career High

Sundiata Gaines was on his game in the recent Utah Jazz contest against the Washington Wizards. Gaines scored 15 points in just 18 minutes, on 6 of 7 shooting, including 2 of 3 from behind the arc. He also had 2 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.

Speaking of "a steal," the Utah Jazz got one when the signed Gaines to the roster. Wish the Hawks had had the foresight.

Terrance Woodbury to Australia

UGA grad Terrance Woodbury will shortly be playing high stakes hoops. Literally.

He was picked up recently in the overseas draft for the High Stakes Hoops tournament to be played in Australia. The tournament will last from April 6-11. Woodbury will be playing for the Cyclones.

High Stakes Hoops is designed to spark interest in basketball for the Australian public. The tournament is not officially sanctioned by the National Basketball League (NBL) of Australia, but it is expected that a number of college and former NBL players will participate in the event.

The rules for the tournament will be different than the American brand of basketball. Besides the normal international rules, the tournament will give a $250,000 grand prize to the team that wins it all.

Teams will get extra bonuses for winning a quarter, which is expected to make each period in the game highly contested. Coaches can designate a period in which three-point shots count for 4 points. So if a player is fouled during this time, it is possible that he can make a 5-point play. This rule is similar to the power play in Australian cricket.

Steve Newman reportedly enjoyed his time playing in Australia, so I imagine that the tournament should be fun for Terrance. It's a big country, and he probably won't have a lot of free time, but perhaps Woodbury will be able to get to see Kevin Brophy's family.

Should be fun. Safe travel, Terrance, and represent the Dawgs well!
